RESEARCH : Outcome

After researching the art of creating a music video, I have decided to go for a conceptual music video. I was always more of a fan of music videos that avoid creating a bold narrative. Narrative music videos eventually limit your imagination; you will always associate that story whenever you listen to that song. As an artist, visual beauty was what intrigued me the most. I like music videos that mesmerize me with their artistic choice of imagery. An example of this is "Love" by Lana Del Rey, which was actually the video that sparked my interest in the art of music videos and eventually became my favourite music video. It truly captures the feeling of the song and that is what I hope to achieve.

Layne Staley :(

Since I landed on the song, "Nutshell" by Alice In Chains, I will be aiming for visuals that reflect the vibe of the song. The acoustic grunge sound will mix well with raw and messy compositions. I wish to tell a subtle story but not really influence the entire video with a narrative. I plan to explore different compositions and want to catch authentic and natural shots. An interesting point to note, I have been researching synesthesia for a while now and turns out I show some symptoms of this condition. Synesthesia is a condition where an individual's multiple senses are triggered at the same time. Some synesthetes can translate sounds into colours, hence "see" songs as visuals. I nearly always have a music video playing in my head whenever I listen to a song, so I will gladly dedicate this ability to my video.

Nutshell colour palette :)

"Nutshell" appears to be reddish-orange with traces of turquoise. The album cover influences the colours I relate to this song, but this colour aesthetic will flow through my project. I hope to create a music video people enjoy visually and that is mesmerizing and memorable to them each time they listen to the song. Additionally, I hope it ends up as a good tribute to the late Layne Staley.
