PLANNING : Implementing Inspiration
As I already mentioned my major inspirations for the music video earlier, I'll be narrowing down what elements of theirs' I'll be using in my project exactly.
For Lana Del Rey, I'll be using the aesthetic of her album "Lust for Life" where she explores retro-futuristic visuals and it brings a very nostalgic and classy feel to her music videos. I want to catch that essence by using a vintage filter that will make my footage look as if it were shot on an old film camera. Lana has used this style of video throughout her music videos, ever since her first official music video for her first single "Video Games", which she compiled and edited herself on her laptop back in 2011.
For Wong Kar Wai, I really want to use his long-exposure filming style with low FPS (frames per second). His cinematography is very raw and vivid and has high usage of colours. The colours often symbolize a mood in the scene of the film. My favourite film of his, "Fallen Angels" heavily inspired me and I intend to use similar camera angles and lighting in my videos. The movie was distinctively known for its ultrawide lens, which I will be using in some shots as my phone has an ultrawide lens.
For BRTHR, I will be adopting their directing style really stands out among other music videos, and I want to compose my video editing similar to theirs. They use many cuts and layers to maintain the video's pace and the final product seemingly looks like a journey through a world different from ours. They use different transitions throughout that add strong twists and turns in their videos but at the same time go in a flow.
I think mixing all these elements from these talented artists will make for a strong project with character and a prominent aesthetic. I hope I do them justice.
