Grunge Rock

As an artist, I've been a fan of music for as long as I can remember, hence, I've explored a tone of genres and have discovered some amazing pieces of art. I often find myself interested in the more revolutionary side of music, when new and creative ideas were being introduced. There was a major shift in the music industry and new styles were being explored, while simultaneously enhancing the previous classic genres. Recently, I've been having kind of a rock phase, mostly listening to music that released in it's peak decades, from the 1970s to 90s. 'Rock and Roll' was how this genre was originally known, growing out of the rock'n'roll movement of the 1940s and 50s. This was inspired by country and African-American rhythm and blues of 1920s and 30s.

Speaking of Rock, this genre lead to the creation of many subgenre, one such called 'Grunge' rock. Emerged from Seattle in the late 1980s, it became a bridge between mainstream heavy metal-hard rock and postpunk alternative rock. It is believed that the well known lead singer of the successful band Nirvana, and generational icon, Kurt Cobain, sparked the term 'grunge' in one of his last interviews, to describe the music. Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden are among the first rock bands to develop this sound.

I have landed on choosing this genre to produce a music video for, as there are so many ways to visualize it and the messy and raw sound will make having a messy and raw music video relevant, which is exactly what I am going for. A grunge rock song will be ideal to make a nostalgic and a wistful project. I had shortlisted a few songs already and will select the one that I will find most interesting to express a music video for.
