RESEARCH : The Music Video

 Music videos have become a complex form of expression in art.

To me, music videos are meant to amplify a song, and gives more freedom to the artist to expand upon the story or world they created in the song, using visual elements. The art of music videos has become a major interest to me , even so more than movies at times. It allows complete freedom to explore music and visuals and sometimes doesn't require the limitations most movies have, who are to explore a narrative. Hence, over the years, all kinds of music videos have been made and there is always room for more creative ideas.

There are certain types of music videos, mainly 5. Performance music videos , probably the oldest and most commonly used, are usually a dance or live performance with the track overlayed. Narrative based are ones with a story, where an actor or the artist themselves are part of a narrative, mostly relating to the song. Lyric music videos are just visuals with the song lyrics being displayed. Animated music videos consist of animated videos, be it hand drawn , digital , stop motion, puppetry etc. There is full freedom of exploring such videos artistically. Lastly, there are conceptual music videos, which have no story line and not necessarily any relevance to the lyrics too, and is usually based on the artist's vision.
